The collection contains Runk's general correspondence; papers relating to his years as student and teacher at the University of Virginia; and papers concerning his service as trustee of the Miller School, Albemarle County, Va. Runk's general correspondence is largely social in nature. University of Virginia material focuses on biology and includes student notes, lecture and laboratory notes, material re Blandy Experimental Farm and Seward Forest, reports on Biology Department projects particularly the Piney River Project to study water borne industrial wastes from an American Cyanamid Company plant and their effect on plants and animals, and some independent studies including a pollen study for Nantucket Island. General university material includes a speech file, committee and special events papers and correspondence re fraternities and societies particularly Omicron Delta Kappa. Miller School trustee papers record the school's operation, 1968-1975, and include correspondence, minutes, budgets, and catalogs. Runk's own personal and financial contributions to the school are also detailed.
